Festivals and seasons

Summer is festival season: harvest festivals in July and August, and orange daylilies on the mountains from August.

Hualien has the largest Indigenous population of any county in Taiwan, and the most Amis people. Summer is when that is easiest for a visitor to see, at the harvest festivals.

Harvest festivals (July and August)

The county's Pacific Austronesian Joint Harvest Festival (太平洋南島聯合豐年節) brings villages together in Hualien City. In 2026 it ran from July 16 to 19 at Dexing Lawn, with a downtown parade on the first day (Liberty Times). Look for the 2027 dates on the county's tourism site in early summer.

Individual Amis villages hold their own harvest festivals, generally in July and August, each on its own dates. These are community events first. If you are invited or a village welcomes visitors, follow the hosts' lead on where to stand, when to take photos and when to join a dance.

Hualien Summer Festival (July)

A free evening carnival of concerts at Dongdamen Plaza, by the night market. In 2026 it ran July 1 to 5, from 19:00 nightly.

Daylily season (August to October)

From August, the orange daylilies bloom on the farms of Liushidan Mountain (六十石山) in Fuli and Chike Mountain (赤柯山) in Yuli, in the south of the county. The 2026 season ran from about August to October 11, with free entry. Both are mountain farm roads, best by car or charter. → The East Rift Valley
